Irene, Caleo Owner
Brendon, the owner of Utopian, one of our partner coffee roasters, recently shared some thoughts on Alva Flores coffee from Perú: "To give a little background, we started our specialty coffee roaster in 2006 as a way to unite coffee quality with human flourishing. I'm an international backpacker at heart and have spent years exploring the world, falling in love with developing countries, many of which had coffee as a predominant export. Throughout the years, we have worked closely with coffee producers (aka farmers), building relationships and gaining first-hand experience with the incredible amount of work required to grow and harvest the fruit (and seed!) that ultimately becomes the roasted product fueling our caffeinated beverages. While the process is amazing, it is really the people behind the process that make the specialty coffee industry worth being a part of." I have known Brendon since opening Caleo in 2017. He was recommended by another small coffee shop owner. After researching many coffee roaster providers, Utopian stood out for Caleo. Why? Because, as Brendon mentions, what makes the difference is always the people. I have to add, it is a pleasure to see and chat with Brendon because he is fluent in my native language, Spanish. Needless to say, the connection was instant! Visit Caleo and taste the different Peruvian coffees roasted with care and craft right here in northeast Indiana. This is my first blog post. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for reading!
